• Superresolution light biomicroscopy
Super-resolution Light Biomicroscopy
Description: The inability of a conventional lens to discern details below a quarter of a micrometer poses a fundamental limit to the measuring power of optical systems. The last few years have witnessed critical advances in breaking this limit (watch movie). Our research efforts in this project aim at the development and application of novel optical microcopy methods with super-resolution in all three spatial dimensions to unravel the mysteries of biology.
One of the unique operation principles of our imaging strategies is the use of the phase of low-level light waves (e.g., fluorescence) to achieve three-dimensional optical resolution at the molecular level as detailed in our work on fluorescence interferometry.
Research Level: Graduate/Post-doctoral.
Skills*: Design and implementation of microscopy systems, optical device fabrication, signal/image processing, programming in Matlab/Visual C++ and LabView, experience in working with cells/proteins/membranes.
* Some of these requirements are loosen for graduate students.
